The Dorai is one of our best-selling training tops, and is in stock now. Our friends at Factory BJJ requested a custom design that resembled a football top, and this sparked off the thought of creating a full line for Scramble in this vein. ⁠

The Dorai is a blend of rashguard and t-shirt, much less figure hugging than a rashy, and lighter, too. It is perfect for no-gi use or under a gi, but also for any type of “athleisure” activities like doomscrolling or ordering pizza. ⁠

Dorai is a play on words for the Japanese word for Dry, as these types of tops are simply known as Dry tops in Japan - probably because they dry quicker than cotton. I guess.

Tapping is an essential part of training, but people react to it differently. I know people who count every single tap, and I know people who's facial expression barely changes when they get tapped. Personally, I have gone through every emotion there is, over the last almost 20 years of training - including getting angry, and feeling like an idiot afterwards. ⁠

Royal Jiujitsu is Open for Business! Congratulations to long time Scramblers Sam and Brad on the opening of their beautiful gym, Royal Jiujitsu, in Birmingham. ⁠

Despite not really being old at all, both Sam and Brad are OGs of the British BJJ scene. Sam holds World and European medals, as does Brad, who also coaches UFC champ Leon Edwards. ⁠

It’s so gratifying to see team members all across the UK beginning to open their own gyms, and to have them all look so good! Plenty of spots for Solid Ground this year!

The concept for Solid Ground was born in the depths of the pandemic. Stuck at home, and realising that more than the jiujitsu itself, it was the human connections that I missed. I missed jiujitsu too, though, and we ended up coming up with an open mat concept that would bring people together, raise money for charity, and give people a chance to buy something they couldn’t buy anywhere else. This was actually important and not for cynical reasons - one of the driving forces of the boom in street wear was scarcity, but these days you can have almost anything you want delivered in less than 24 hours. But, there is no way to get the Solid Ground goods other than to physically be present at the open mat.
